UPDATES

From MS and LA volunteers:

Dscn0203Ann Titleman and David Shaul of Camp Rescue drove from ATL to N.O. on Friday 9/30.  They, with other rescue teams, worked from sun to sun and slept in a truck at night.  The majority of the time was spent feeding and watering extremely dehydrated, sickly, guarded animals.  They also helped facilitate the transport of around 20 dogs and 20 cats to no-kill shelter sites and foster organizations. After 6  days David had to return to ATL, which meant taking their truck with him. Ann wanted to stay but couldn't be without transport for her resuce work. Thanks to another donation we had received this week, we were able to send that money directly to her to help her rent a car to stay so she can continue to rescue, and transport supplies and animals.  SHE"S STILL THERE!

Babs Brown and co-pilot Rodney Larson left on 10/7 with an RV LOADED with donations to meet requests for the Louisiana Humane Society.  She is also taking 3 generators that will be passed along to Julie and Carrie for transport to New Orleans.

Julie Eldridge and Carrie Ward  arrived safely in Baton Rouge airport on Friday 10/7.  Their plans include: volunteering at Best Friends,  delivering 3 generators and other crucial supplies to the Mutt Shack and possibly the Winn Dixie site in N.O.  They will try to contact Ann Titleman to get updated info on which sites need what, and then volunteering to help fulfill those needs- we know they will be kept busy!  Bayou Rescue was able to forward a $100 donation on FRIDAY to help this team purchase supplies to deliver to the Mutt Shack.

Kelly Ronnow and Colleen Lanigan will be driving to Tylertown MS on Wed. 10/12.  They are requesting donations of gas cards and vet supplies.  Vet supply needs include: heartworm tests, idex snap combo tests for cats, cat dewormer and earmite medicine.  Anyone able to help with these needs can drop them at the Orange County Special Olympics office this week (on Plant Road, behind the Chapel Hill community center).

Sometimes the Best...

Reunions, Are NewUnionsTHIS MONTH is ADOPT-A-SHELTER-DOG month. (Note this is an equally purrrfect time to adopt a cat as well).  No matter what size, shape, type or manner of 4-legged family addition you are looking for, we PROMISE he or she is out there.  Please visit your local shelter, or petfinder.com.

Reunions...

Although there are still many animals left in areas damaged by Katrina and Rita, lots of those animals are being fed, watered, and rescued on an ongoing basis. Of course, thousands of animals are being cared for by rescue organizations such as the Humane Society of MS , the Humane Society of LA, and Project Halo.

In addition to her rescue work in New Orleans, Ann Titleman also volunteered at Best Friends last week.  Ann, a friend and co-founder of Camp Rescue gave this report from Tylertown on Friday: "An adorable older English couple from N.O. were reunited with their 2-year old cat, who had been trapped inside their home for 5 weeks, much of the time with no food. This couple had 'adopted' the cat two years ago, when, as a kitten, it was literally wrapped around the neck of a feral cat sitting at their back door." Needless to say they were MOST grateful (the couple AND the cat) that these rescuers hadn't given up hope or hard work after over a month!  Talk about 2nd chances!

Last week, HIMIE the Rottweiler found his person (with some help).  Read here to find out how.  Also read the story of Kilo.

We Held Off —

Hoping it was not true. However, it seems that it is.

Horrible deaths for dogs at the hands of humans (I use the term loosely) in St. Bernard Parish. It could even have been the local authorities. Please pressure authorities and anyone else you can think of to pursue the prosecution of these individuals. I could write more, but the story alone is like a punch to the gut. More impactful than any of my own words.

Cnn_stephensIf you are easily upset don't view the links —
but you can still send a message to the US Representative from that district, Rep. Charlie Melancon and the Lousiana State Senator, Sen. Walter J. Boasso with the subject heading "Find who shot the dogs NOW!" The sheriff's website was down at the time of this post.

BE FOREWARNED the following links can be very upsetting. To read about the story and efforts to find the responsible parties click here. It was also reported on CNN. You may have to click browse in the top right corner of the player window to reload the dog story.
