THERE'S NO PLACE

LIKE HOME. Thankfully, these Katrina rescues now have one to call their own.

BERNIE IS ADOPTED!!! This big love was found on the streets of New Orleans in early November, and got adopted on New Year's Day!  This hound/mastiff? mix is a lover of all people, and finally he has a forever home to love him right back.  He is currently recouping from heartworm treatment in the family recliner (likely with something fleece) and getting lots of TLC from his new parents in Wake Forest.  Talk about a Happy New Year!!

"Blue Man" is being fostered through Happy Hills.  Together with his foster mom Linda, this fella will be treated for heartworms and  neutered before he's adopted out.  Although he has some challenges before him, THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT HE HAS A NEW HOME in Alexandria, VA when he is well.  In addition to loving mom Laura Raye, he will also have a brother to frolick with.  MANY THANKS to Ron and Holly for transporting him, and to Kelly Ronnow for being his new 'case manager!'

Scrappy Doo is quite the charasmatic and colorful little creature!  He's already teaching his new canine sister Allie all kinds of 'tricks' and pranks.  This little guy never missed a beat, whether in a kennel space, or his foster home with lots of others, or making himself at home in the lap of his new mom & dad.  Thanks Pam Sullivan and Best Buddies for making this all possible.

Callie, who was fostered by Pam Hall in N.C. has gone to her new home with Angela Fitzgerald.  This gal managed to capture the heart of everyone who met her (maybe even her foster lab brother and sister, Doc and Kate.)  This gal also had required some vet treatment prior to placement, and we think Dr. Melanie Smith must have slipped some sugar into her injection to make her so sweet!  UPDATE FROM 1/06/05 - Anglea says Callie is excellent off leash, and listens very well.  She spends her weekends romping in the country and hanging out with at the horse barns where her mom teaches.  She's fine with those long legged 'dogs,' but really loves the attention of all the children there. OH - and she attended her first new year's eve party.  Apparently, Callie is the talk of the town.

ADOPTED !"Braveheart" seemed an appropriate moniker for this resiliant chocolate lab.  This guy has been held in a crate in Pass Christian for 3 months. Jen Strom saw him on her rescue trip in September, and hasn't forgotten him. This guy has heartworms, hookworms, prostate problems, infected cuts along his ears, and atrophied leg muscles. But as soon as he arrived in Chapel Hill, he took one look at a tennis ball and one would think he felt like a million dog bones. This lucky guy has been ADOPTED by Linda Grace  in Durham. We hope resident lab Bob will enjoy his company.

"Blue Girl" is now LUCY, and in her new home with Allison Rice and Lou Perron in Durham, NC. Between their 2 legged children, and a more laid back dog named Keats, should have plenty to occupy her mind and active body.  We're happy to see she has so much energy, because she had been very sick for several weeks, requiring several rounds of vet care, antibiotics and TLC.
