What's going on?

LOTS, still...

For a video update and PSA, please click here.

Animal Rescue New Orleans
operations have been handed over to local residents for continued rescue work.

Ann Jordan, in Charlotte, NC has procured
large donations of hay for the horses and cows in the Plaquemines Parish and other areas. These livestock are starving in decimated pastures, with their local food supply damaged by saltwater.

In addition, Ann has been hard at work collecting
donations to send down with superhero animal rescue Garo, from NY. Garo is moving down to the LA gulf area for 7 months, to help with efforts to rescue and find homes for the countless dogs and cats still wondering in several areas.  Garo has arranged no-kill shelter placement for several hundred animals in New York.

Want to help?  These folks and animals need:

1) Drivers that can help with a leg (or an entire trip) to transport animals from New Orleans to New York.  This may even be a team of 1-2 people that can allow primary drivers to sleep in the passenger seat for a few hours.  If  you can help drive animals to safety, please email Ann.

2) Transport for hay! As of this week, thousands of bales have been donated, and just need transport.  This includes 2,000 bales in Mocksville, NC, 1200 bales in MN, and 250 bales in PA.  Please email Ann if you can transport hay. OR, you may phone
Capt. Morgan at 205-266-7224.

3) Adopt an animal - Adopting animals from your local shelters and/or foster programs makes room for the animals that are still being brought in EVERY DAY, at the rate of HUNDERDS EVERY WEEK

Noah's Wish Training

Here are only a few of the photo ops at last week's Noah's Wish Traning.  Representing the triangle, and one point westward, are:  Julie LaValle Jones, Colleen Lanigan, Kelly Ronnow, Amber Alsobrooks & Dave Alsobrooks.  Each day we attended workshops ranging from animal first aid, to stress reduction, to setting up an emergency shelter in disaster areas.

We also ate our first MRE's, and were happy that Terri Crisp, executive director of Noah's Wish, came by to supervise our dinnertime antics.

Royal Treatment

Royal BLUE, that is.

We made it through this past weekend's mock disaster, complete with flushing toilets, climate control, dimmer switches and wainscotting. It was tough, but Bayou Rescue prevailed, even though we were required to wear royal blue shirts all weekend.

All jokes aside, the training from Noah's Wish in Savannah was as good as it could be - under the circumstances. We learned so much about their unique system and focus. Dave drank the Kool-Aid.
We will be so much better at maximizing our resources (I mean all of us) next time a disaster hits.

The training focused on the pitfalls of the early hours of set-up after a disaster, community relationships, teamwork, animal CPR and all of the individual areas particular to Noah's Wish's operations.

We'll post pictures soon!

Rescuers in Training...

Kelly Ronnow, Colleen Lanigan, Julie Jones, and Amber and Dave Alsobrooks are leaving for Savannah GA, for the Noah's Wish Training.  Everyone is looking forward to  learning how to do hands on rescue, intake, manage an emergency shelter site, and more.  Kelly, who once tried to 'save' an ungrateful and grouchy copperhead snake, confided that she's not quite as thrilled about the snake handling and rescue segment.

Understood.

Puppy paradise....

Puppy1 ...is being rescued from a drainpipe on a frigid, wet winter day and being taken into a good Samaritan's home.  Kathy Mincey and her sons found four Australian cattle dog mix puppies, along with a very fearful mama, in just such condition in Durham.  Kathy has been able to earn the trust of mama dog, who is especially fearful of men.  She's also managed to find homes for 2of the four puppies.

Puppy2 LUCKY YOU - there are still one male and one female left, seeking an active family.  They are appx. 9 or 10 weeks old now.  Kathy says: "The male, Jack, is sweet, lovable, energetic, and has the cutest expression.  Winter, the female, is smaller, also energetic and loves to play, but also more cuddly--loves, for some reason, to get on my feet and go to sleep (this while I'm standing cooking)…she also loves to get in the recliner with you and snooze.  She has one black eye and a black spot at the top of her tail.  Their fur is very soft and smooth.   Both love getting their tummies rubbed.  They are eating puppy/canned food fine, and love an occasional chew snack.  As typical puppies they love to chew--but they understand the word "NO."  They are sort of getting the hang of going potty outside and not inside--they will almost always oblige when you take them out."

PLEASE EMAIL KATHY DIRECTLY IF YOU'D LIKE TO MEET JACK OR WINTER

Welcome home Carrie Griffin!
Carrie just spent several days working in the medical ward at the Best Friends site in Tylertown Mississippi.   There, she experienced crazy weather, lots of work, and more vegetables than she has ever chosen to have in her life.  We thank her for her work, and hope to update with photos soon!
