Housing Crisis Hurts Pets Most

With all the recent foreclosures, real estate agents and others are reporting finding animals abandoned in homes that families could no longer afford, and already packed shelters are seeing an increase in surrenders due to families losing their home.

Thank you Ben Stein, for your plea for some financial relief for those that need it most.

The HSUS has established a grant program to help animal rescues and shelters who offer assistance to families who lose their homes in foreclosure.

Oprah tackles puppy mills

THANKS Oprah, for helping to educate the world about where those cute doggies in the pet store windows come from.

See excerpts from Friday's show, and remind everyone you know that the only way to stop this tragic treatment of animals is:

DON'T SHOP.... ADOPT!!

Images from Oprah's Friday show: (L) Many breeding females and their puppies are kept in filthy, cramped cages.
(R) "Jake" is one of the lucky dogs rescued from a puppy mill, rehabilitated, and given a loving home.

Help Pika find her way home

Image002UPDATE, 5/12/08 from volunteer Jen S.- Pika has a new home!

PIKA started life on the road—Interstate 95, to be exact. Born at a rest stop along the Maryland-Pennsylvania line, she hung out in a gigantic parking lot with her family, begging food from kind travelers. But after a few months of the indoor life, she realizes the only highway she wants to see is the one that leads from her foster home to her permanent family. PIKA is a small cat with a big, happy personality who loves to play with toys and to do laps around the house. But she’s also pretty content at lap-sitting.

PIKA is around a year old, healthy, spayed, FIV and Feluk negative, and had all her vaccinations. She’s very affectionate (you should see the kitty rolls!) and likes other cats (and dogs, as long as they aren’t chasers). PIKA needs an indoor-only home and a family who will commit to making her happy-ever-after come true.
