TN was especially hard hit by a series of tornadoes to hit several states last week.

Several animal rescue organizations, such as Best Friends, Noah's Wish, and EARS, are in the process of assessing volunteer and supply needs.  Local animal welfare and DART personnel 'in action' as we speak.

Any Bayou Rescue volunteers that have completed training for the traveling Response Team, and are registered as a volunteer with any of these organizations may contact us if they are considering deployment to one of these areas.

Home...

That's where Amber still is, after receiving a call Wednesday night that she was no longer needed.  Well, at least no  longer needed at the Hendersonville ACGS site.

According to the UAN/E.A.R.S. representative that spoke with Amber, the site was being officially CLOSED because ALL the animals on site had been adopted.  See their blog for updates

OPERATION MOVE OUT...

Amber Alsobrooks is deploying Thurs. as a volunteer for E.A.R.S. (Emergency Animal Rescue Services) to work in Hendersonville, NC.

On Feb. 1, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services launched Operation MoveOut to transfer animals from the All Creatures Great and Small shelter in Hendersonville to animal rescue organizations. Members of the public also may adopt animals from the shelter, beginning Feb. 5.

Currently there are 152 dogs and 19 cats on site, many of them needing some extra TLC before they go to rescues or are adopted

The only supply needs that have been communicated to Bayou Rescue is the need for CLEAN towels and bedding for dogs.  If you want to donate on WEDNESDAY, and can meet Amber along I-40 or deliver to Efland, email us.

After 6 weeks, Midnight returns to her family

The week before Christmas, a local family of 8 lost their home to a fire.  Just this week, after spending 6 weeks in a hotel, the family found a new place to call home.  Of course, it wasn't truly home without their pets.

One dog, Sadie, has been with a friend.  Another dog, Midnight, didn't have a place to go, until the Red Cross called Bayou Rescue.  Bayou Rescue was able to get Midnight to the vet the next day for x-rays and exam, and into a foster home with Paw Prints Animal Rescue.   During her stay with her foster mom, she learned to appreciate/tolerate cats, and got to sleep on the bed.  She even had her little lady surgery done while in foster.

On SATURDAY, 2/2/08, Midnight was reunited with her family, which includes 6 children.  It was hard to tell who was more excited, but suffice to say there were lots of smiles and kisses all around!

Thanks to the family for giving permission to share these happy photos, and to Paw Prints and all the Bayou Rescue supporters who make reunions like this possible!

2 months later, WA animals desperate

In December, Lewis County Washington was devastated by storms and flooding.  Now, 2 months later, the animals lucky enough to survive the floods are facing illnesses from contaminated water, and caretakers are having difficulty continuing to feed the animals.

The Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross will be offering a Dog First Aid Class on Friday, February 22nd, from 6-10 p.m.

The course, along with the manual and DVD, will cover a variety of emergency and pet health topics.

The course is only $35 per person and includes all materials - a small investment to protect the life of a family member.

Send a valentine to a chained dog....

Dogs Deserve Better hopes to send out 10,000 handmade valentines, along with a brochure and treat coupon, to caretakers of dogs currently chained or penned.

Help needed ASAP!

The time has finally arrived.  By court order, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) has the authority to direct the removal of at least 350 animals from the All Creatures Great and Small (ACGS) site in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

The current on-site animal count today is as follows:  284 dogs, 220 cats, 6 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs.

These animals have been through horrible, horrible neglect and suffering at the hands of a hoarder that calls themselves "rescuer."  If you feel the need to see video footage, go to the PETA website.

Midnight enjoys her feline friends

Midnight, who is being fostered for a family that lost their home in a recent fire, is being fostered by Paw Prints Animal Rescue.  Midnight's foster home has lots of kitties, which she did not have previously in her home.  We were curious to see how she would handle being around cats for the first time.  Apparently she is adjusting well.

Here is an update from her foster mom:
I had to laugh the other night - she was on the bed pressed up against me (which she does when she wants attention). She had one of my adolescent kitten fosters rummaging around inside one of her ears, licking and purring and another that was sniffing and nuzzling her face. She kept looking up at me for guidance. I told her to relax and enjoy it! She finally took my advice... I think she really likes them now - they are the closest substitution for human kids that I can offer her." 

Apparently Midnight has also found her way into the cat food a couple times ;)
